Yes... it is.... Directory submission is very beneficial for getting back links... it's easy to submit. get easy approvals. and having a huge database...

It works if all your directory submissions will get approved and the page where your website will be placed is already indexed by the search engines.

Dir submission is important for getting backlinks but the number of dir submission depends upon the computation.submit your website to SEO friendly and high page rank dirs.

I agree with you. Directory submission is still effective. You'll get a boost in the search engines from the directory links. You'll get some hits to your site because of the links and the keywords where you rank well. If your site is any good then you'll get some "natural" links from those hits. Which will boost your site in the search engines again. Bottom line, directories are one way to get your site noticed.

Directories can help with anchor text and to rank certain key phrases and also provide backlinks. Directory submission is more beneficial for new sites that have no backlinks yet and pages that are trying to rank well for long tail keywords.

As directory submission is the oldest method of link building so it is really too effective there is no doubt of this but we need to do manual work means we need to submit our site manually for better result from search engines.
