cPanel server migration - moving cPanel server

Postby hostingforum » Wed Aug 24, 2011 2:23 pm

Hi,

moving to a new server can be quite complicated task for an amateur. But with cPanel server the process is easier.

So how to migrate cpanel to another server. And all Apache, Mysql configuration files?

I have found two manuals, i did not tried them yet, but i treat them to be very usefull and simple in the way to help transfer cpanel server to a new one.

There are links:

If you succeed or have any comments on moving cPanel to a new server, they are very welcome. Thanks!

How to migrate cPanel server - cPanel server migration.

I was very unsure about this task and quite afraid. So i gathered some information from Google. mainly from cPanel forum.

Step 1 - I have ordered cPanel server preinstalled from OVH.
Step 2 - I have coppied configuration files via SCP from my old server to my new server.

http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/process-mov ... post831162

You can use Shell Backup script and Restore script i created.
configfiles_backup_sh.tar
Shell scripts you can run to backup and restore cpanel and easyapache config files. untar them: tar xf configfiles_backup_sh.tar And run backup script on old server and restore script on new server. Backup original files on new server. How to run a sh script? Do: sh filename.sh
(4 KiB) Downloaded 424 times

Then i have copied mysql variables from /etc/my.cnf to a new server so it has bigger values for my needs.

Step 3 - Then i have Updated, Server, System Software and Configured cPanel updates to automatic + Updated cPanel instantly. Then maybe rebuild Apache using Easyapache profile i have copied from old server at Step 2.

Step 4 - I browsed DNS section in WHM and edited what needed.

Step 5 - I added my Fail-Over IPs i have with OVH for another server and also transfered them to my new server using OVH Manager.

Step 6 - I have rebooted server

Step 7 - I have Transfered all cPanel accounts from my old server.

Step 8 - I have changed my nameservers IP at my domains registar so it points to my new server IP

Notes: When i bulk transfered cpanel accounts from old server, it was somehow corupted because probably low mysql values or non rebuilt apache. So i then transfered some accounts manually.

This cpanel server migration guide should work. But i dont guarantee anything and you are doing this on your own risk.
