Guide: How to change font family and colors for PHPBB forum

Postby hostingforum » Sun Nov 13, 2011 12:49 pm

Hi, i have a PHPBB forum with Subsilver2 theme (Demo: http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/subsilver2). Its that old looking default one.

Some of my forum visitors complained that theme looks old and too default so i decided to change Font-Family of the forum to be like at VBulletin

How to change font of the PHPBB forum?
1. Open your CSS style file of your theme via FTP (/public_htm/styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css) and make backup of original file.
2. And search for "font-family" in entire document. If you have subsilver2 theme, then i have there font family "Lucida Grande"..etc....
3. Add vBulletin Font family or any other you like and comment out old style.
Example:
Default: font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
Edited: font-family: Tahoma, Calibri, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; /*"Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;*/

Or simply replace old font families. The Vbulletin font is usually: Tahoma, Calibri, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
4. SAVE the file on your hosting
5. Goto your phpbb forum administration into "Styles" tab and click "Skins" on the left menu. Then "Referesh" your corresponding style.

Now you can see a new font. Maybe font is too small or too big. Then edit the above CSS file again and find "font-size" parameter under "body {***}" tag. Change the percentage font size.

How to change background colors of the posts and forums?
1. Look into your websites source code to find code of the background color of the post. (#******), i use Windows software, which automatically shows me the color on the monitor. (http://the-color-picker.lastdownload.com/)
2. Search for this code in your phpbb theme CSS file (/public_htm/styles/subsilver2/theme/stylesheet.css) on Your webhosting.
3. Replace the old color code by a new code of the colour you wish to have. Dont forget to backup original file.
4. Use step 5 from previous example to refresh theme and see changes.
