How to create Backup of a Website in HostGator

Postby hostingforum » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:16 am

Majority of the modern Web servers are capable of holding large volumes of files consisting of uploaded videos and images, SQL databases, email records and text. Creating backup of this huge data may not be possible for people without any kind of Web development experience. HostGator has come up with a perfect solution to the problem with its automatic backup operation which aims to compress the entire data of the website into one single archive. Creating a backup with HostGator website helps in restoring the contents of the website in case of any error or while transferring the website to some other hosting service.

Provided below are the steps:

Step 1 Website owners need to navigate to HostGator Control Panel using the link that was sent by HostGator during the creation of the account.

Step 2 They need to scroll down to Files section located within the page and click on the icon, “Backup Wizard”. Towards the page’s left side, the “Backup” button can be located and they need to click on it.

Step 3 For the creation of backup for the entire Web server, one needs to click on “Full Backup” button. If they want partial backup then buttons present on the page’s right side can be clicked. With full backup website owners have the ability to move their website to some new hosting service; however with partial backup it is possible to save only the contents of the website. Restoration of partial backup is possible directly to HostGator.

Step 4 After that, it is required to click on “Backup Destination” within the dropdown menu and from there the location needs to be selected where storing of backup files by HostGator will take place. Those who select “Home Directory”, for them the backups are stored in top folder of Web server. If “Remote FTP Server” is selected then the backups are stored on a server as per the wish of the owner.

Step 5 Once the destination is selected, the website owner needs to type the username, password, address as well as port number of FTP server if “Remote FTP Server” was selected previously.

Step 7 The backup gets created once the person clicks on “Generate Backup”.
