MaxCDN.com Review and Setup - Best CDN

Postby hostingforum » Sun Feb 26, 2012 2:45 pm

Hi, i have seen some post where some Indian blogger earns like $20K monthly and his blog might be http://www.nirmaltv.com
So it brouht me into idea to create similar blog. At the bottom of the site, i have found that he is using Wordpress, Grey Buzz theme and MAX CDN content delivery network. When you access their website maxcdn.com, you can see it is quite attractive, simple website. They support worpress cdn, phpbb cdn, vbulletin cdn, drupal cdn and probably all other.

What is CDN (Content delivery network)?
That means a network of computers (usually locations from all over the world) which helps to serve your website visitors with content. It helps your server or hosting decrease amount of data and requests processed and makes it faster. Why? All the website contents like CSS, images, javascript and others can be loaded from several hostnames and locations (computers) thanks to MaxCDN. This means that website content is not loaded as a series from your site, but paralelly from diferent locations thus website is loaded faster.

Results of this can be better custommer satisfaction, better SEO ranking, less stress on your server.

So i decided to use MaxCDN for my blogs and forums. I will write my Max CDN review soon.. This is the review, read more..

MaxCDN CDN setup review

Order and signup is very easy. There was sunday while i ordered and i got registration details within few hours. The process of setup is little bit complicated and not that simple as it can look like while you signing up. I personally spent like 5 hours setting up my vBulletin Forum!! So when you got an account you need to create various kind of CDN zones. I used Pull Zones for small images, css, javascript delivery. Follow the instructions to setup your Pull Zone.

Then you got your address like imagescdn.yourdomain.com and somespecialmaxcdnurl.com and you are told to setup CNAME record for your domain. If you dont have cPanel hosting control panel, you will need to ask your webhoster that you need to setup imagescdn.yourdomain.com to point to somespecialmaxcdnlongurl.com CNAME. If you are lucky and have cPanel, login to your account and find icon called "Simple DNS Zone Editor" or similar. In this editor, Add a CNAME Record. Name is imagescdn.yourdomain.com and CNAME is somespecialmaxcdnlongurl.com. Now when you visit imagescdn.yourdomain.com you should be redirected to your main domain. Correct.

Then follow instructions on MaxCDN implementation page to setup your CDN at your website script (phpbb, wordpress, vbulletin etc).

MaxCDN on vBulletin - Setup
I have followed above instructions to setup CDN on my vBulletin. Downside of this integration is that you need to have vBSEO for vBulletin which cost around 130USD. MaxCDN will be able to integrate also without it but you will surelly need some programmer knowledge or good Googling skills. So how i setup it? I entered my VBSEO configuration and in "General settings" picked CDN menu item. Then you can pull all content freom your one url, this url is http://somespecialmaxcdnlongurl.com/ (with http:// and with ending trailing slash) you need to play little bit with it.When you open your forum source code, you can see if the changes were applied.

MaxCDN Signup
When ordering, dont forget to use Max CDN coupon code: HOMEFORGEEKS, MaxCDNcoupon, WPBEGINNER or MAXCDNCOUPON to get 25% off! :) :yes

So here is my review after one month of using MaxCDN.

MaxCDN works good, and im satisfied with them. The 1TB bandwidth is far enough for my needs of serving basic images, CSS and javascript.

I have experienced downtime with CDN, problem was probably on my side (my cPanel server - Config Server Firewall) somehow blocked their CDN IPs so data from Pullzones was not shown. I allowed max CDN IPs in white list, it simply started working again.

MaxCDN Ease of setup: 6/10 (not much easy, takes time)
MaxCDN Support: 8/10 (good)
Price: 8/10 (good, i have paid around 30usd for 1TB data for first year..TB is far enough if you dont use CDN for sharing big files, just loading images, CSS and JS)
