This is not a question, this topic is just an amateur ideas on how to turn an Android phone or other Android device with internet / mobile network and GPS into a locator. (example put phone into a car trunk and be able to discover car location from anywhere)

execute infinite or via cron running shell script from android
script will check mailbox and if received e-mail contains certain commands, it for example:
a) use GPS to send current position, battery level
b) launch other script which will prevent system to go sleep (example by killing script which is triggering it) and start sending GPS position nonstop until new email received with command to stop or until battery is at certain level
..
PS: is the GSM signal under the car hood?

Android device (the server) that is either non stop running or directed by the shell scripts and cron jobs to wake up and sleep in regular intervals. Upon wake up, the android app called Macrodroid checks missed calls and is checking current incoming calls. If found call from defined phone number (my phone), then it sends an SMS with current GPS position and battery status), there is an template for this exact action inside Macrodroid app. If there is new SMS from me (client), it can start sending its position indefinitely and repeatedly until new email/sms arives instructing to stop and return to the sleepy mode.
